About Anne

Dear Richmond Voter,

My name is Anne O’Brien, and I would like to continue to be your State Representative. I have decided to run for re-election because I care deeply about the future of Richmond and Vermont. I want Vermont to move forward with creativity and optimism in these tough economic times. We need to tap into our strongly rooted values to work together to solve the many challenges we face-healthcare, energy, and employment, to name but a few.

My colleagues and friends would tell you that I am friendly and accessible, a thoughtful listener, and very tenacious when it’s time to get the job done. My approach to problem-solving is to listen carefully, gather facts, evaluate the alternatives, and focus on results. Here’s a little more about my life and experience:

  • I grew up in Vermont and have lived in Richmond for 26 years, raising my three children here. I am committed to helping to keep Vermont a place where they and others can continue to work and thrive.
  • I came to Richmond at age 19 to work on Leon and Blanche Dowd’s farm, where Leon taught me to milk cows and back a hay wagon into the barn, and Blanche taught me to make maple syrup and donuts.
  • I am a graduate of the Fanny Allen School of Practical Nursing, hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Vermont, and a Master of Science Degree in Administration from St. Michael’s College.
  • I have worked as a Visiting Nurse in Chittenden County, where I came to know intimately the struggles of Vermont families who are challenged by illness and limited resources.
  • I was on the faculty at University of Vermont Continuing Education for six years, where I was leader of the Health Care Team and a member of the Faculty Senate.
  • I served as a Healthcare Business Analyst on a team with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration, helping develop online healthcare resources for soldiers and veterans.
  • I was a member of the founding board and first executive director of the Vermont Council for Quality, assisting small businesses with economic development, improving service quality, and staying competitive.
  • In 2008 I served as Director of Patient Safety and Organizational Excellence at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

It would be an honor to continue to serve Richmond in Montpelier. Please contact me at aobrien@gmavt.net or 434-4250 if you would like to talk in person.
